The War of 1812
The War of 1812 was a war fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom and its colonies from 1812 to 1815. Taking place just years after the American Revolutionary War, it carries with it the growing American resentment over the United Kingdom’s seizure of thousands of American sailors into the British navy, frustration at British restraints on trade, and anger at British military support for American Indians defending their lands from encroaching American settlers. When the war had finished, 1,600 British and 2,260 American troops had died. However, in the end, it was a war in which nothing changed - no territory was lost nor gained by either side and none of the points of contention were addressed by the Treaty of Ghent.
