Jascha Heifetz
For my biography, I picked Jascha Heifetz. Heifetz was labeled as the best violinist in history. Anyone who plays the violin is often compared to him, if they are good enough; when you play, teachers sometimes tell you to play in his clean cut style. There is a great deal of recordings of him, but no matter what the piece, the articulation is his dominant claim to fame of the classical music world. Heifitz has always been important in my household because of my mother. She studied with Ivan Galamian, a very close friend of Heifetz, in The Julliard School of Music. She has most of his recordings and always tells me to play in his style. My style is very smooth and gliding so it’s hard for me to play like Heifetz.
