History of the Bicycle
[Picture: Bicycle] Vehicles for human transport that have two-wheels and require balancing by the rider have a long history. The earliest confirmed example dates back to the early 19th century, although the term bicycle was coined in France in the 1860s. Knowledge of the bicycle's history has languished during the period of its chief rival, the automobile. One of the relatively recent efforts to improve that historical record is the annual International Cycling History Conference (ICHC), the first of which took place in Glasgow, Scotland in 1990.
