Biography of Pol Pot
[Picture: Pol Pot] Saloth Sar, aliases Brother Number One, Pol, Pouk, Hay, Grand-Uncle, '87', Phem, '99, and best known as Pol Pot, was the leader of the communist movement known as the Khmer Rouge. He was the Prime Minister of Cambodia (officially renamed Democratic Kampuchea under his rule) from 1976 to 1979, having been de facto leader since mid-1975. During his time in power Pol Pot imposed a version of agrarian collectivization whereby city dwellers were relocated to the countryside to work in collective farms and forced labour projects, conceived as a restarting of civilization in "Year Zero".
