Farmer First Revisited

147 Events

Creator:FarmerFirstView editors

This timeline tracks forty years of experimentation, experience and debate on farmer-centred, participatory agricultural research, innovation and extension. The timeline concentrates particularly on events associated with a series of landmark workshops that took place at the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, UK, over a twenty-year period: "Farmer First" in 1987, "Beyond Farmer First" in 1992 and a third workshop, "Farmer First Revisited", which took place on 12-14 December 2007. That workshop reflected on 20 years of experience in the field and assessed opportunities and challenges for the future. Both participants and non-participants in the Farmer First Revisited conference are warmly invited to contribute to this timeline. In order to do so, you need to (a) create a personal account and (b) join the Farmer First Revisited group. You can locate the group by clicking on the Groups tab at the top of any web-page and then using the alphabeti (more)

nophotoHello Guest! Thanks for leaving this comment. You are right, there is lots missing, which is why we are strongly encouraging both participants and non-participants in the FFR workshop to contribute to this timeline. I'm sorry you couldn't work out how to edit. It turns out that when you associate a timeline with a group, the timeline is editable only by group members (we didn't realise that would happen). So please create an account and apply to join the group, then you can add your own updates. Looking forward to reading your additions! DominicG (FFR group moderator)

nophotoLots missing on here. Plenty to add, not least the arrival of such approached in different world regions and language groups, and the period of disillusionment with agrarian populism that became increasingly prevalent in the mid to late 1990s, linked in turn to the rise of 'governance and institutions' as opposed to 'extension and rural development' as key development concerns. It seems those not part of this invitation-only conference cannot add to the timeline?
