Michael Servetus Burned

1553
Michael Servetus was a humanist from Spain who became known for his denial of the Holy Trinity (father, son, holy ghost). He was arrested by the Spanish Inquistion, but managed to escape to Calvin's Geneva, Switzerland. He was rearrested immediately upon reaching Geneva.During his trial, he expressed rejection of the Holy Trinity based on the Scripture, rejection of child Baptism, and the belief that individuals under 20 years of age could not commit a mortal sin. These ideas disturbed the Calvinists, and, though Servetus pleaded that he be banished instead, Calvin and his council burned him at the stake.
