There is pre-historic evidence that shows brewing began around 5,400 BCin Sumer (southern Iraq).
Some recent archaeological finds also show that Chinese
villagers were brewing alcoholic drinks as far back as 7000 BC. However, these
pre-historic brewing efforts were on a small, or individual, scale - not on the
scale of a modern day brewery.
