Six months after the Invasion of Iraq, Democrat Candidate Howard Dean was the only well known Democratic Presidential candidate that vocally opposed the War. Dean's innovative internet fundraising campign drew on deep anti-bush hostility amongst mostly young and far left voters.
The amount of money being raised by Dean, stunned his Democratic rivals who generally believed that opposing the war was political suicide in a post 911 world. After 6 months of fundraising, Dean had moved from a rating of 8th out of 12 candidates to the fundraising leader with $25.4 million as of September 30, 2003.
Over the next few months, All major Democrat rivals began to position themselves as Antiwar candidates.
