Operation Eagle Claw was a United States military operation to rescue the 52 hostages from the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran on April 24, 1980. The failure of the operation led to the creation of the United States Special Operations Command and the U.S. Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. The mission was a complete failure with no succesful hostage rescue.
