This oil painting by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo depicts two children dancing before a fire. Tamayo used a limited pallate in his works, using mostly colours associated with his native Mexico. These being earthy pigments such as ochre, orange and brown. He also incorporated elements of pre-Columbian cultures in his art. Tamayo is often associated with other great mexican painters and muralists of the 20th century. Critics claim that unlike them, he went beyond the political in his works.
